Ten benefits of Bigbelly's connected bins and how the system can help you

In a 5-year period, the costs of the operation for emptying bins have decreased from 1,560,000 to 260,000 SEK and CO2 emissions have fallen from 6.9 tonnes to 2.2 tonnes. With Bigbelly, litter capacity has increased, productivity in the business has increased, the number of drains and the number of shipments has decreased - on the same surface as before.

You know that we are a growing society where littering is increasing and resources are becoming increasingly strained, we can say that! I will now describe an example of why you need Bigbelly in your business. In a central park, there are 40 traditional trash cans that each hold 40 liters of garbage, a total capacity of 1,600 liters.

These trash is emptied 2 to 3 times a week depending on the season. On average, it takes 5 to 10 minutes to empty the respective trash on the area's total park area, of which 12,000 square meters. The park is located 20 km from the business depot where the service cars are powered by diesel. The staff starts from their scheduled transport route and goes to the park in the usual order.

The day before, it was bad weather and the park had minimal visitors. This resulted in only 20 out of 40 traditional bins being emptied that day but all were checked. Other days where the weather has been good and there has been high activity in the park, it quickly results in overcrowded bins, pests and picking on land.

Emptying costs about 50 sek on average where new garbage bag, personnel and transport costs are included. To sum this up, it costs about 2,000 sek to check and empty 40 bins on that park surface with a time of about 6 hours, from and to the pits included.

It may not sound like much, but to sum it up, there will be 3 empties a week, 6 240 empties a year. An annual cost for these empties in that park will be approximately SEK 312,000. The diesel-powered service car emits about 220g of carbon dioxide emissions per kilometer, which is 1,372,800g per year, ie almost 1.4 tonnes of CO2 for this park only. In a 5-year period, it is SEK 1,560,000 and 6.9 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions.

You, me and everyone else want a safer and a better environment for a sustainable future.

To calculate the above example and show why you need Bigbelly's smart bins, we remove the previous traditional baskets and install 20 Bigbelly instead. The park now receives 9 Bigbelly High Capacity which has built-in, solar-powered comprimator with capacity of 570 liters and 11 Bigbelly Standard Capacity of 190 liters.

This will be a 7,220 litre debris capacity instead of the previous 1,600 litres and the used ground surface has barely increased and the number of bins has been reduced. We say that the emptyings for the park area of 12,000 sqm decreased from 3 to 1 time a week because now with the help of Bigbelly you know how much rubbish there is in each trash can. You no longer have to go blind.

The service car now travels only once a week to this park and now minimizes carbon dioxide emissions from 1.4 tonnes to 457,600 g per year. Almost 1 tonne of CO2 in savings. The cost per emptying remains unchanged, but the total cost of emptying now decreases from 312,000 sek to 52,000 sek per year given fewer bins and fewer emptyings. You have simply become aware and gained a greater capacity.

Connected bins that produce results!

In a 5-year period, the business's costs for emptying have decreased from SEK 1,560,000 to SEK 260,000, saving SEK 1.3 million and CO2 emissions have decreased from 6.9 tonnes to 2.2 tonnes. Litter capacity has increased, productivity in operations has increased, the number of emptyings and the number of transports has decreased – on the same surface as before.

Bigbelly trash cans are market-leading and are in many ways smarter than traditional trash cans. They automatically compress the garbage and can therefore handle large volumes of garbage in public environments without connection to electricity grids. Bigbelly has an integrated cloud service that monitors each unit in the fleet and provides better planning basis for planning.

Better data, better decisions.

Through the integrated Cloud Service CLEAN can you monitor the trash level level, position, heatmaps, battery status, door openings, compressions, etc. and also update the software wirelessly to always be part of the development.

If necessary for emptying, the trash will notify its filling level directly to staff and operate themselves with, among other things, the number of people who have been able to do so. renewable solar energy and provides the possibility of advanced, standalone technology with different types of themes, both in terms of sound and design.
