Uppsala municipality bought its first smart bins to the summer of 2013 and currently has 275 units.

We have chosen to invest in a solar-powered system, so-called Big Belly Solar. The goal of the initiative is to improve the environment of the municipality through reduced transportation and a cleaner environment around the containers. Since we introduced the system, has the visible litter in the City Garden and the surrounding larger parks declined by 20 per cent. A contributing factor may also be the actual placement.

Single and triple units, we have a total of 275 units been deployed in mainly frequented parks as well as in the Centre. Garbage cans have a built-in compactor that is powered by solar energy. With the help of compactor compacted waste when the Pan is full. As the system expanded increases benefits for the environment, the knowledge of the system for those who take care of the garbage collecting, recognition effect for citizens and the possibilities of specific source separation in the public space – It will be easy to do right!

Of course, the expansion also reduced costs.
