This is a transparent and replaceable rope cover that is mounted on the hood of the device. You can easily restore the surface with heat or alternatively replace it in case of wear.
This video describes the use of hood guards where the surface is re-hardened using heat. In this case, 300 degrees celcius was used for 4 seconds to remove scratches from the cover.
