Solar-powered lighting for the island's future
The Gullholmen project in Bohuslän is an excellent example of how to respond to requests for increased accessibility and safety on an island. Working closely with the local energy company, an innovative solution was found to improve presence on the island.
In this case, they chose to implement a presence-controlled, solar-powered bollard lighting for the walkways on the island. One of the biggest challenges was that Gullholmen is a nature reserve and lacks access to a conventional electricity grid. This required a creative solution.
Self-sufficient bollard lighting
By installing no less than 245 self-sufficient bollards, mounted on rocks and in the ground with earth anchors, it was possible to light no less than 4 km of road on the island. This has not only improved accessibility and safety for those living on or visiting the island, but has also enabled the preservation of the island's natural values and its status as a nature reserve.

It is worth noting that the Gullholmen project also received valuable EU funding from Leader Södra Bohuslän for its work on eco-efficient lighting. This is an excellent example of how innovation and cooperation can lead to positive results for both society and the environment.
