Statistics show that commuting to work by e-bike is a growing trend, with employers investing in preferential bicycles and encouraging sustainable travel, as well as new questions about how to store and charge batteries safely.
Here, safe charging is an important part of the solution.
Government recommendations to stop charging indoors have led to a ban on bringing bicycle batteries into the building, leading to employees taking their cars instead of cycling to work.
The guidelines thus have the opposite effect.
Does your workplace want to encourage e-bike commuting and reduce emissions from commuting, by offering safe charging of e-bike batteries?
In our last newsletter, we highlighted funding support through Klimatklivet, and the response was great. We even received emails from curious readers asking how to apply.
Unfortunately, we are not involved in the application process, but we have developed some tips along the way that we think may be useful in your efforts to prepare an application.

What is Klimatklivet?
Klimatklivet is a government investment grant distributed by the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency and is aimed at companies, municipalities and organizations that want to implement physical measures that reduce greenhouse gas emissions. You can apply for investment support via Klimatklivet and get up to 70% of the cost financed. This can be anything from charging infrastructure to offering safe charging of electric bikes at the workplace. The important thing is that the investment:
- leads to reduced emissions
- would not have been implemented without aid
- is feasible and sustainable

Inspiring examples from Sweden and Denmark
Denmark has implemented EU-funded projects with Eco Charge Charge charging cabinets as part of its commitment to sustainable cycling infrastructure.
Svärdsjö in Dalarna received support for a commuter parking lot

5 concrete tips for formulating your application
1. describe the problem you want to solve
"We want to increase the share of bike commuters in the organization, but many refrain from doing so because they have nowhere to safely charge their battery during the day."
2. Put the climate benefit in numbers
The Swedish EPA would like a report on estimated annual emission reductions. Example:
"We estimate that 10 people will use the charging cabinet. If 10 people switch their car commute to an electric bike three days a week, we will reduce emissions by about 0.98 tons of CO₂ per year."
For example, use this CO₂ calculator
3. Show that the solution is sustainable and well thought out
Explain why you chose a safe charging cabinet from Eco Charge:
- In accordance with the SBA
- Integrable into existing access and parking systems
- CE - marked and Swedish manufacturing
4. describe the implementation
- When should it be installed?
- Who is responsible for the project?
- Do you have electrical wiring in place or are measures needed?
5. Accounting for costs and budget
- Product cost
- Installation
- Possible operation/maintenance
What are you waiting for?
The next application period is open September 22 - October 3, 2025. With a clear climate benefit and a well-thought-out plan, we believe that you have good opportunities to receive support through Klimatklivet.
We are happy to help you take the first step.
