Since a few weeks back there are five new garbage cans in central Örnsköldsvik. In Örnsköldsvik, only the number passing by the barrels is counted. But the service can be expanded so that visitor flows, i.e. how people moved between measuring points, are also recorded. Visitor lengths and whether there are regular visits can also be measured. If it weren't for the photovoltaic panel in the lid, you'd think it's a regular barrel. But the lid hides electronics that register when a mobile phone or computer with wifi turned on comes close by. The barrels also measure how they are used as garbage containers, which can be useful to know for those planning the sanitation.
