EWF Eco, the Nordic market leader in smart solutions for waste management and micromobility, and Saferoad Smekab AB, which manufactures steel products for public spaces under the Saferoad Citylife brand, are launching a partnership and are now jointly expanding into the Finnish market. As part of this initiative, the companies jointly welcome Aarni Mertala as the new Sales Manager for Finland, effective September 1, 2026.
Through this partnership, the two companies are combining their strengths in urban development—EWF’s smart solutions for waste management and charging infrastructure for electric bicycle batteries, and Saferoad Citylife’s steel products for streets, squares, and public spaces. Together, the companies aim to offer Finnish municipalities and property owners a broader range of services and a stronger local presence.
EWF Eco has been active in the Finnish market for over ten years and has been the exclusive distributor of Bigbelly in the Nordic region since 2012, with installations in Helsinki and Mariehamn, among other locations. Through its new partnership with Saferoad Citylife, EWF Eco is now taking the next step and further strengthening its commitment to Finland.

As part of its efforts to broaden its portfolio, Saferoad Citylife will also become a reseller in the Swedish market of EWF’s product, ECO Charge —charging cabinets for the safe charging of electric bicycle batteries in public spaces.
Joint Sales Force in Finland
The companies’ joint sales manager, Aarni Mertala, has over 20 years of experience in the industry and a solid background in sales and business development. Among other things, he spent several years at Lappset Group Oy, which offers innovative playground and outdoor furniture, where he developed strong expertise in public spaces and urban development. With his experience, extensive network, and deep market knowledge, he is expected to play a key role in the joint offering in the Finnish market.
