Väinölänniemi leads the way for smart recycling and sanitation in Kuopio
Väinölänniemi, one of Kuopio's oldest and most famous city parks, has now taken a pioneering step towards improving sanitation and promoting smart recycling in the public environment. Near the popular outdoor gym, an impressive Bigbelly recycling module has been installed. With a capacity of 1330 liters and advanced IoT technology, these smart bins enable efficient compaction and remote monitoring for optimal use and emptying.
By prioritizing waste fractions such as mixed waste, cardboard packaging and bottles/cans, Väinölänniemi reduces the need for frequent emptying. Using a built-in compactor, powered by solar energy, the waste is compressed into a smaller space, saving time and resources. Intelligent sensors monitor filling levels and eliminate unnecessary checks.
This technology is available to the public, which means that both visitors and residents can contribute to a cleaner and more sustainable environment by correctly sorting and disposing of their waste in these smart bins. Väinölänniemi is proudly taking a big step forward towards becoming a pioneer in sanitation and smart waste sorting, where cleanliness and sustainability go hand in hand.
